When I first looked up at the night sky from Lake Tekapo, I got the sense that I was standing in a planetarium. That’s how clear the stars are in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. It took my brain a few seconds to adjust to the fact that this was the real deal.

This is a single frame, not a composite, thanks to the brightness of the stars.
